Best Audience: Organic and Natural-minded folk who want to eliminate as many harmful chemicals from their environment as possible
I picked up The Naturally Clean Home: 150 Super-Easy Herbal Formulas for Green Cleaning by Karyn Siegel-Maier at Glory Bee’s retail shop a few years ago. It was, in all honesty, an impulse buy. I was in the process of convincing my family that we should Go Green at home – which meant they’d have to give up a lot of the chemicals they liked for bathroom-cleaning. I hooped that Karyn’s book would give us a few good ideas that actually worked.
I’ve tried some of the recipes in The Naturally Clean Home: 150 Super-Easy Herbal Formulas for Green Cleaning, but most assuredly not all of them. I’ve found a few that work wonderfully, like the Basic Laundry Soap on page 78, and some that worked okay, like the oven cleaners (which work for light duty but did’t quite cut the heavier stuff). I wished the pest-control section had been much more robust. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the Kitchen, Bath, Laundry, and Walls and Carpets sections.
All in all, The Naturally Clean Home: 150 Super-Easy Herbal Formulas for Green Cleaning is a good reference for natural housekeeping, but it’s not as comprehensive as I would have liked. This is a great support piece and reference, but it doesn’t make the grade as a primary source for my household.
The Bottom Line: The Naturally Clean Home: 150 Super-Easy Herbal Formulas for Green Cleaning by Karyn Siegel-Maier has earned a place on my bookshelf for now.
