The Language Of Emotions By Karla McLaren

Best Audience: Anyone who wants to better understand or find a healthy framework for understanding emotions as tools for a healthy lifestyle and espcially those who want to build their empathic skills

It occurred to me in my teens that not everyone around me seemed to understand emotional energies as well as I did. I was born an empath to a world that hadn’t yet invented that concept. I learned a lot by observing, analyzing, and feeling. By the time I found Karla McLaren’s The Language of Emotions: What Your Feelings Are Trying to Tell You, I was comfortable in my own world of emotional understanding. What I didn’t always have was concrete, rational, clear language to explain to others what emotions were saying. McLaren changed that.

The Language of Emotions offers a clear foundation in understanding emotion and feeling in two parts. In the first, McLaren shares her personal journey and offers suggestions and ideas for connecting with your emotions in the first part. In the second, she offers up a thorough treatment of the basic emotional states we all encounter on a fairly regular basis. For each emotion, she offers understanding of what message that emotion may be conveying, what it looks like when it gets stuck, and a practice for working with it.

I particularly liked her analytical approach to each feeling. She breaks down how the emotions and how they function in our lives logically, offering even the most emotionally illiterate an understanding of what to do with all those feelings and a sound clue on what they might mean. Even if you already feel comfortable amidst all those emotions, McLaren’s work offers a clean and neat language and framework for communicating with those who don’t. The Language of Emotions: What Your Feelings Are Trying to Tell You by Karla McLaren is one work I can recommend with ease to anyone who wants to expand and improve their understanding of the emotional landscape of their lives.

Bottom Line: The Language of Emotions: What Your Feelings Are Trying to Tell You by Karl McLaren has earned a permanent place on my bookshelf.
