Best Audience or Use: For folks who have a hard time growing plants inside, especially due to poor lighting
I received my Miracle-Gro AeroGarden Ultra LED Indoor Garden with Gourmet Herb Seed Kit as a Christmas gift. At first, I was skeptical. My house is really too dark most of the time to make even low light houseplants happy, so I’d entertained some kind of hydroponic system but never actually invested. I expected the Aerogarden to be noisy and burdensome. I expected it’d take a lot of regular work to keep it neat, tidy, and to keep my plants healthy. I’d expected the lights to be expensive to maintain. I was so very wrong!
My Aerogarden has turned out to be a terrific little hydroponic system. It fits neatly on top of my bookshelf, runs quietly, and pretty much takes care of itself. A little light goes on when it’s time to add fertilizer, and it didn’t take me long to develop the habit of lifting the flap to check the water level daily. It brings a lovely brightness to an area of my home that was always dark and kind of dreary before, too. So far, I’ve grown herbs and flowers, both successfully. Mine is the model with LED lighting, so there’s no bulbs to replace…ever.
I love that the engineers designed the Aerogarden to look good in a house, too. I’ve seen some pretty fantastic hydroponic systems…that looked like they belonged in a greenhouse rather than a living room. If I had a greenhouse or the space to devote to that kind of system, I wouldn’t be complaining. I live in a standard city house, with just enough light daily to not go crazy but not enough to get my African Violets blooming regularly. Aerogarden fits perfectly into my livingroom’s aestetic and has offered up enough extra light to make those self-same African violets lush and happy.
My only complaint is that I wish the light could be extended another six inches or so higher to accomodate a slightly wider range of potential flowering plants. Many plants grow to 24 inches, but my Aerogarden extends to only 21 inches, which limits my seed choices. Still, within the 21 inch range I have a pretty healthy range of choices, especially when I include herbs like basil and hyssop in the selection.
I’ve written a few articles on gardening with my Aerogarden, including what to look for in potential fertilizers if you don’t want to stick just with the liquid nutrients that come with the system and how to give your non-Aerogarden plants a little Aerogarden loving to improve blooming and overall health. If, like me, you have a low-light space you’d love to brighten with a few healthy plants but don’t necessarily want to spend a lot of time caring for those plants, Miracle-Gro AeroGarden Ultra LED Indoor Garden with Gourmet Herb Seed Kit could be just the solution you’re seeking.
Bottom Line: Miracle-Gro AeroGarden Ultra LED Indoor Garden with Gourmet Herb Seed Kit has earned a place on my bookshelf.
